When Percy gets a mysterious call from Grover urging him to come and help him at a military school, him, Thalia, and Annabeth race to help him. Grover says he is picking up the scent of two powerful demigods. Possibly even kids of the Big Three (Poseidon, Zeus, and Hades) who were supposed to obey a ban to stop having kids of their own since they would be so powerful that they could literally start another world war, (I really mean it, last time they were allowed to have kids they had kids on either side World War 2) Hades was on one side Poseidon and Zeus on the other, Naturally Poseidon and Zeus won. They were called the Allies. (Get it, Allies as in Zeus and Poseidon TOGETHER, ha ha).
Anyways, Percy and Annabeth found that a Manticore (an ancient monster, with a body of a lion, a face of a human, three rows of sharp teeth, and a scorpion tail that could shoot poisoned spikes) was posing as a teacher called Dr.Thorn. So Percy, Annabeth,Thalia, and Grover find the two demigods called Bianca and Nico.
They try to run away but Dr.Thorn finds them there and attempts to kill them. In an attempts to save themselves Annabeth jumps on Dr.Thorn's back. Dr.Thorn was about to kill them all with his spikes but suddenly arrows intercept everyone. Artemis (goddess of the hunt and the moon) herself steps out with a band of only girl hunters called the Hunters of Artemis. Artemis tries to kill Dr.Thorn but he jumps of a cliff with Annabeth still on his back.
Percy hurries back to camp with Thalia, the hunters, Grover, Bianca, and Nico all very sad. Percy has a vision which shows him that Annabeth is alive but trapped by Luke. All the campers decide that there will be a quest to rescue Annabeth. Soon after Artemis goes missing. All evidence points to Luke again. The campers decide that Percy will not go. Percy gets angry and leaves by himself. Soon he catches up to the rest of the people of the quest. But they face another challenge, a person who calls himself the General. Along the way Percy meets an underwater animal who he names Bessie. They somehow get to Mount Diablo (where Annabeth and Artemis are trapped). There they realise that Bessie is actually an Ophiotaurus, whose entrails could destroy the gods. They fight Luke and the General who turns out to be Atlas. At the end Annabeth and Artemis are both rescued and Atlas is back holding the sky. Only there is one problem, Bianca and Zoe die (Zoe was the leader of the Hunters and one of the people in the quest). And Nico turns out to be a son of Hades.
I like this book because it is a little more serious but just as funny as the rest of the books. Of course the chapter titles are just as funny. From"the principal gets missile launchers" to "Thalia torches New England" to "I go snowboarding with a pig" to " I wrestle Santa's evil twin" you just have to laugh at the chapter titles.
