Rowling vs Tolkien

Harry is a wizard with an archenemy, another wizard whose name alone strikes fear into people's hearts, Voldemort. Join Harry as he epically fights against him in a series of books with his trusty friends Hermione (the know-it-all) and Ron (Harry's best friend).

Frodo has a ring which can possibly destroy middle earth. He and a company of people risk their lives to destroy it which means to bring it dangerously close to the rings master. Join Frodo on an epic quest in which rightful kings of emperors stripped of their rank fight alongside dwarves and elves in a bid to destroy a ring in which is enough power to make its master alive again. And that would mean certain destruction.

I love both books (both are multiple, Harry Potter is seven and The Lord Of The Rings is a trilogy). Harry Potter slowly builds up and then explodes in the final book. The Lord Of the Rings has an explosiveness from the beginning and somehow manages to make it even more harrowing in the end. I personally like Tolkien better because of that but Rowling isn't far behind. Rowling is a bit funnier and has sold more copies (I think).

Now YOU tell me who you think is better, Rowling or Tolkien.

  1. Tough one. I would have to say Tolkien. Middle Earth is such a unique and detailed world...it is amazing the imagination that Tolkien had. Not to mention that it has also remained popular so long after being published. I wonder if the same will be true of Harry Potter after 50+ years.
