Rick Riordan

I was looking for books in the library when I found The Maze of Bones by Rick Riordan. From that second I was hooked on to his writing. I love his casual style as if he is the person he is portraying. I also like how at the end most of the mysteries are solved but a few are still there so that you read the next book.It was in that period that I found Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. I was intrigued by his plot, a modern day dyslexic/ADHD demigod (half mortal half god) in a big prophecy that he has the choice to destroy or preserve the Greek gods (like Zeus and Poseidon, to name a few). He found camp for demigods called a Camp-Half Blood. Percy (that's his name) is a son of the sea god, Poseidon. Percy has a few really good friends like Grover, a satyr (half human half goat). Tyson a cyclopes who is actually Percy's half-brother since Poseidon is his dad too. And Annabeth, a daughter of Athena (goddess of wisdom and war). They have to fight monsters and save the gods while saving the world at the same time. I think it's cool how Rick Riordan finds a way to make all of the supernatural stuff fit into reality.

Rick Riordan's next series with Percy Jackson (The Heroes of Olympus) took it a notch further by adding a Roman legion to his already diverse story. The Romans have their own religion and gods, most of which are surprisingly similar to the Greek gods. Also it's interesting how the Roman/Greek god sides are constantly switching, for example you might be talking to Jupiter one second and then he turns into Zeus.To add to their great pain in the neck Gaea (goddess of the earth, who actually isn't a god- she's their grandmother) is stirring and she's angry, the Giants (ugly but powerful ones that are descendants of Gaea) are alive. And last but not least the doors of death which are usually closed to block the dead to go back to the living world are open allowing monsters to travel freely so that all monsters that Percy and his friends fight and kill just keep coming back.

Overall I think Rick Riordan is a GREAT author. If you haven't read his work try it.
